Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The police have arrested 11 suspected drug traffickers during a series of raids conducted in different parts of West Sumatra Province from Apr 1 to Apr 16.

"The 11 suspected drug traffickers were arrested in seven different cases," Drugs Director of the West Sumatra Provincial Police Senior Commissioner Kumbul K. S. noted in a press conference here on Wednesday.

During the raids, the police also seized 30.67 grams of crystal meth and 12 kilograms of hashish as evidence, he revealed.

Two of the suspects, identified by their initials as H and N, were arrested in front of a school building in Lubuk Minturun, KotoTangah Sub-district, on Sunday (Apr 15), he remarked.

The police seized 11.5 kilograms of hashish from the two suspects, who said the narcotic was brought from Aceh Province by land, he stated.

"The two suspects met with the owner of the contraband and bought it. The owner of the hashish then dropped 11.5 kilograms of hashish at a certain location they had agreed upon," he said.

The two suspects are members of an inter-provincial drug syndicate, as they had obtained the hashish from Aceh to sell it in Padang City, he noted.

"We have continued our investigation to find the people, who have supplied the hashish," he revealed.

All suspects were charged with violating article 114, sub-article 2 and article 112, sub-article 2 of Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009. If found guilty, they could be sentenced to at least six years` imprisonment or to life term at the most.
