Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla, here on Thursday, handed out Intellectual Property Awards to numerous figures and state enterprises for successfully developing innovation and technology for improving the people`s lives.

"The progress of a nation cannot be separated from innovation, creativity, and hard work of society, scientists, entrepreneurs, and of us all. Without innovation and hard work, it is impossible to achieve such a developed society," Kalla noted during the commemoration of the 18th World Intellectual Property Day at the Vice Presidential Palace.

On Apr 26, every year, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated to gain a broader understanding of the role of intellectual property rights encompassing patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyrights in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year`s World Intellectual Property Day campaign celebrates the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity, and courage of women, who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future.

On the occasion, Kalla noted that the development of an era always begins with innovation and technological development.

Kalla remarked that the first industrial revolution was characterized by the invention of steam and electric engines that brought about a significant change in the world.

The second industrial revolution began with the improvement of factories or manufacturing systems, so society could produce better and faster.

"Now and henceforth, people have been thinking of running the fourth industrial revolution, which is based more on the digital industry and robotics. The capital of all that is innovation," he explained.
