Banyuwangi, E Java (ANTARA News) - The Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry has implemented a program to send lecturers of Islamic Universities to study various disciplines abroad.

"There are short-term training programs for various disciplines, including for lecturers from religious universities abroad, in order to improve their competencies," Director of Careers and Human Resource Competence of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Bunyamin Maftuh stated at the Islamic Institute of Darussalam in Karangdoro Village, Banyuwangi District, on Monday.

Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Prof. Mohamad Nasir has instructed lecturers of religious universities to not be sent to countries in the Middle East region.

This aims to encourage their Islamic point of view as well as to review the methodology and publication of scientific works of professors of religious universities.

"We want to encourage Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) universities to be like other universities that are advanced. Professors from the universities of NU are still very few," he remarked.

Minister Nasir inaugurated the technical guidance of NU lecturer`s career improvement program organized by Directorate of Career and Human Resource Competence in collaboration with Nahdlatul Ulama Institution of Higher Education at the Islamic Institute of Darussalam in Banyuwangi.

He further pointed out that the ministry is focused on developing science and technology.

"Our domain is the development of science and technology, so that the referent countries are Europe, the United States, and Australia," he added.
