"Indonesia provides full support for the process to continue with some deals that we hope will contribute to the peace process in our region," President Joko Widodo said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has expressed its support towards the peacemaking process in Korean Peninsula, which was marked by the Inter-Korean Summit last week.

"Indonesia provides full support for the process to continue with some deals that we hope will contribute to the peace process in our region," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated at the Merdeka Palace on Monday, after a meeting with ambassadors from North and South Korea.

By realizing true peace, countries in the region can focus on the development in various sectors, he noted.

South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Kim Chang-beom, and North Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, An Kwang-il, were invited by Jokowi to meet him at the palace.

The ambassadors, who arrived together at the palace at 2 p.m., both rode to the meeting venue in the same golf cart. They were seen talking intimately as they headed for the meeting.

Jokowi revealed that the peace process is very meaningful for the development of the two Koreas and their surrounding regions.

According to him, Indonesia has also offered to host a summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un to discuss peace.

He also invited the two Koreas to participate in the Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang in August-September 2018.

Jokowi also took pictures together along with Kim and An, with each holding the Asian Games mascot doll.

Moon and Kim have also agreed to end the Korean War during a meeting in the demilitarized zone of Panmunjom village.

The leaders agreed to the Panmunjom Declaration, committing to seek complete denuclearization of the peninsula.

"North and South Korea have confirmed the common goal of realizing a nuclear-free Korean peninsula through complete denuclearization," it stated, as reported by the Guardian.

During the closed-door morning meeting, the two leaders discussed denuclearization and rebuilding relations. Both Kim and Moon expressed their desire for future meet-ups, and Moon hailed it as a very good discussion.

The declaration also agreed to help unite families divided between North and South. Moon also agreed to visit Pyongyang, North Korea, in the autumn.

All the key players in the region welcomed the agreement, including China and Japan. Russia`s Foreign Ministry says it is ready to facilitate cooperation between North and South Korea.

Trump, who is due to meet Kim in the coming weeks, also hailed the end of the Korean war.
