"I hope the revision will improve the weakness of our fishery law," PudjiastUti said here on Monday.
She spoke at the opening of a Panel Discussion on Fisheries Law Revision at the ministry building.
Pudjiastuti said searching the owner of an illegal boat will be difficult if the article is deleted.
The revision process, said the Minister, should improve and support Indonesia`s mission to be the world`s maritime axis.
She added that illegal fishing used to be institutionalized and has infected some persons. The eradication of illegal fishing in Indonesia has been successful, she said.
The regulation has been proven returning the wealth of the Indonesian marine sector.
Pudjiastuti said there were 363 boats that the government have sunk. She hoped foreign fishing boats would not be permitted to enter Indonesian waters.
Additionally, the Executive Director of Maritime Research Center, Abdul Halim, recommended that the ministry improve the financial access for traditional fishermen.
Halim asked for establishing a capital management agency for the fishery sector maintained by the ministry.
