Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian handmade jewelry successfully attracted the Japanese market, especially at the 22nd International Jewelry Kobe (IJK) exhibition held in Kobe, Japan.

Head of Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka, Ichwan Joesoef, said that at the exhibition, which took place from May 16 to 18, 2018, Indonesian domestic companies presented a wide range of Indonesian jewelry that presents the superiority of the handmade products.

"The handmade jewelry raises the visitors` curiosity about the story behind jewelry making. Indonesian participation in the IJK 2018 is one of the efforts to continue promoting Indonesia`s premier jewelry portfolio to Japan," Joesoef noted in a written statement received on Thursday.

IJK is one of the largest jewelry exhibition series in Japan. Ministry of Commerce, through ITPC Osaka and in cooperation with the Consulate General of Osaka, facilitated 12 local jewelry brands from Indonesia at IJK 2018 event this time.

Some local brands include Dientje Art Stone, D.RU., Elleyhan Jewelery, From Tiny Islands, Silver HS, Leginayba, Oaksva Jewelery, SSS Silver, and Suardana Silver.

From the exhibition, the Indonesian Pavilion recorded transactions and potential transactions of more than 10 million yen, or equivalent to US$90 thousand.

The IJK 2018 exhibition was attended by 580 exhibitors and 12.6 thousand buyers. Of the buyers, there are four thousand regular buyers present each year, dominated by wholesalers, both local and overseas, such as China, Korea, and India.

The brands exhibited in Japan includes the category of jewelry companies specializing in pearl crafts and shells, precious stones, silver, silver filigree, beads, and ethnic jewelry. Joesoef noted that Japan is a developed country with positive growth and with high purchasing power of society.

One of the indicators is the surge of jewelry export from Indonesia to Japan. Indonesia`s jewelry export to Japan surged with a trend of 92.49 percent in the last five years. In 2016, the value of Indonesia`s jewelry export to Japan was $666 million, and in 2017, it was$1.02 billion.

Indonesia occupies the fourth position of the Japanese jewelry market share of 9.29 percent, after the United States, Korea, and South Africa.

Japanese jewelry imports from the world in 2017 reached $11.05. Japan is the seventh jewelry importer country in the Asia Pacific region. Japan`s jewelry imports also rose significantly in the first quarter of 2018, by 44.16 percent over the same period in 2017.
