Jakarta, (ANTARA News)- Airlangga Hartarto, chairman of the Golkar Party, has a chance to become a vice presidential candidate with Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, according to Akbar Tanjung, senior politician of Golkar.

"Formally, Hartarto had a bigger chance," Tanjung, deputy chairman of Golkar`s Honorary Council, said here, Sunday evening.

Tanjung said personally he had no idea who would be candidate for vice president. It would be up to Jokowi to pick his vice presidential candidate, he added.

"Mr Jokowi will decide who will be his vice presidential candidate," he said.

Golkar would hold an internal discussion if the party would nominate its candidate, he said.

Basically, Golkar fully supports Airlangga Hartarto to be vice presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election, he noted, adding that all chairmen of the Golkar regional chapters (DPD) agreed with the idea during a gathering held in Jakarta on June 1.

The Golkar DPD chairmen supported Hartarto to become vice presidential candidate, but the final decision will still be in the hand of Jokowi, he remarked.
