Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) has confirmed the participation of 16 thousand athletes and officials in the 18th Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.

"Based on the latest data, the number of participating athletes would be around 11 thousand, and the number of officials would reach around 16 thousand. It has surpassed our estimated target," INASGOC Chairman Erick Thohir said here on Thursday, after deciding on the matches to be played in seven sport branches.

Thohir noted that the increasing number of participants reflected the confidence of the 45 contingents in Indonesia, which is the host.

"We will immediately map which team to train, where to play, and the services needed by athletes and officials from each of the contingent," he noted.

According to him, the number of participants was 20 percent higher than in the previous event in Incheon, South Korea, in 2014, with the number of sport branches recorded at 40 with 465 events.

"We will make preparations with regard to catering, buses, seats for spectators, and others, as the number of participants has increased by 20 percent," he explained.

INASGOC will also discuss with Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and federations of Asian sport branches with regard to sepaktakraw and the second venue for volley ball event, he revealed.

OCA and INASGOC on Thursday conducted a toss to decide matches for rugby 7`s, hand ball, sepaktakraw, volleyball, water polo, basketball, and football.
