Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - The Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will provide special immigration counters for the Asian Games 2018 contingents.

Head of Immigration Office at the Airport Enang Syamsi stated here on Thursday that the special immigration counters will ease the movement of athletes and officials and avoid unnecessary long queues for both athletes and regular passengers.

"The immigration office will have special counters, separate from those for regular passengers. You can imagine if we have five flights arriving at the same time, each flight could carry 300 passengers. There would be 1,500 passengers, and the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INASGOC) volunteers would find it difficult to distinguish between the athletes and regular passengers," he noted.

The authority will provide 10 counters for the Asian Games delegations and 20 counters for regular passengers.

"However, it does not mean that INASGOC will be prioritized. We have arranged this, and both regular passengers and Asian Games contingents will be served," he remarked.

Enang remarked that a similar arrangement had been tested during the Eid al-Fitr long holidays, with some 1.5 million passengers arriving at the airport.

The authority will deploy 800 immigration personnel during the international sports event to be held from Aug 18 to Sept 2.

Meanwhile, Deputy Jakarta Police Chief Brig. Gen. Purwadi Arianto pointed out that the authority will deploy two thousand security personnel from the Indonesian Military, police, and aviation security.

"Soekarno-Hatta airport will become a strategic point during the event of the Asian Games, as it is where Indonesia will offer its first service to visitors," he added.
