"I believe that if all community members, the police, TNI, central, and regional governments as well as sponsors work together, as has been so far, to support the success of the Asian Games 2018, the event would be smooth," Chairman Erick Tohir saidKuta, Bali, (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) has called for full support from community members as well as the police and military (TNI) to make the Asian Games 2018, scheduled in Jakarta and Palembang from Aug 18 to Sept 2, a success.
"I believe that if all community members, the police, TNI, central, and regional governments as well as sponsors work together, as has been so far, to support the success of the Asian Games 2018, the event would be smooth," Chairman Erick Tohir said here on Monday.
He stated that the event did not exclusively belong to the committee but to the entire Indonesian nation.
Thohir was here to welcome the arrival of the 18th Asian Games Torch Relay in Bali, after it was brought from Yogyakarta in Central Java on July 16.
He expressed happiness on the safe arrival of the torch in Bali as the tenth destinations for the torch relay.
The arrival of the Asian Games Torch was welcomed very lively, considering Bali as a top tourist destination.
Before reaching Bali, the torch was welcomed with various traditional art performances in Banyuwangi, East Java, which is also a famous tourist destination.
The torch arrived at the popular Kuta beach at 4 p.m., brought by senior cabinet minister Puan Maharani, and it was then handed over to actor Hamish Daud for further parading.
Maharani hoped the arrival of the torch in Bali could attract Asian Games contingents to visit the island.
She remarked that the torch would deliberately pass through 54 cities in 18 provinces in the country to promote tourism destinations.
After Kuta, the torch would be paraded to Tanah Lot, passing through Tampaksiring, Garuda Wisnu Kencana, Subak Sembung, and Bajra Sandi Renonn, which are all popular tourist spots.
