Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian authority is keen to work with China to maintain regional maritime security and stability, in particular to secure freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.

"We expect China will remain as a good partner in maintaining security and stability in the region," noted the Indonesia`s Defense Ministry`s Secretary General, Vice Admiral Hadiyan Sumintaadmadja, during the commemoration of the 91th Anniversary of the Founding of Chinese People`s Liberation Army in Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

The Vice Admiral also stressed that Indonesia would support China`s effort in securing freedom of navigation in the South China Sea through ASEAN-China Maritime Defense Joint-Exercise.

"We believe that ASEAN and China could contribute in maintaining peace and security in the South China Sea," he said.

Indonesia and China have been enjoying a bilateral strategic partnership in various fields, including defense cooperation, since the ratification of Indonesia-China Cooperation Agreement in Defense Field by the House of Representatives in 2016.

Through the agreement, Indonesia had sent 171 military personnel to study in China, while China sent 15 military officers to Indonesia. The two countries also have a Defense Cooperation Meeting that held regularly in Indonesia and China alternately.

The Chinese Embassy`s Defense Attache Colonel Zhou Jian remarked that the People`s Liberation Amy (PLA) is keen to expand the defense cooperation with Indonesian Military in a bid to maintain security and stability through a peaceful way.

"We believe that the on going dialogue and cooperation in military education and technology through the bilateral strategic partnership are fruitful. In the future, we would like to strengthen the defense cooperation with the Indonesian Military to achieve peaceful development and prosperity for the two countries," he noted.

The Chinese PLA was founded on August 1, 1927. During the 19th Congress of Chinese Communist Party and Two Sessions of National Congress of China, President Xi Jinping had stated that PLA would continue to go through a peaceful path in a bid to achieve a sustainable development for the prosperity of the people.
