Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is building high-speed internet infrastructure, targeting all districts across Indonesia, according to Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara.

"With the Palapa Ring program, in 2019, all districts and cities in Indonesia must be connected to a high-speed internet network," the minister stated during the National Children`s Day Seminar 2018 at the Adhyana Auditorium, Wisma Antara, here on Thursday.

Puncak Jaya District in Papua is one of the areas in Indonesia that the communication and informatics minister has visited to gain first-hand information about the development of the high-speed internet network infrastructure there.

With the construction of high-speed internet network in the highest area in Papua Province, school children in the area can also use the internet alike their peers in Jakarta.

Despite understanding the possible adverse effects of internet use on children, Rudiantara said it could not be a reason for the government to stop building high-speed internet infrastructure.

"Using the internet is a right, for it can facilitate the learning process of children in school," the minister stated.

Rudiantara was one of the speakers at the 2018 National Children`s Day Seminar on "My Good Internet, My Interne is Fun" held by the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Ministry of Communications and Informatics, ECPAT Indonesia, Siberkreasi, and ID-COP.

Apart from Rudiantara, other speakers were Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yembise.
