Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla, accompanied by chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Zulkifli Hasan, opened the national working meeting of a Muslim organization, Tarbiyah Islamiyah Association (Perti) in Bandarlampung on Saturday.

Earlier, Jusuf Kalla departed from Jakarta for Lampung Province on Saturday morning for a one-day work visit to open the National Working Meeting of Tarbiyah Islamiyah Association (Perti).

Boarding the presidential aircraft, Kalla and his entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport here at 8:30 a.m. local time for the Radin Inten II Airport in Bandar Lampung.

The vice president`s entourage comprised People`s Consultative Assembly Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, Chief of the Secretariat of the Vice President Mohammad Oemar, Deputy of Human Development Policy Support and Development Affairs Bambang Widianto, and Special Staff of the Vice President for Poverty Reduction and Regional Autonomy Syahrul Udjud.

On July 16, Kalla was invited by Perti Chairman Basri Bermanda to open the National Working Meeting on Saturday and will later return to Jakarta in the afternoon.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Kalla expects Perti to develop education for the progress and prosperity of the nation and state.

"Only with education can this nation progress," Vice President Kalla noted in his speech.

He explained that the Indonesian nation has abundant natural resources, but it needs science and technology to manage the resources optimally.
