Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Tourism has set a target to receive 170 thousand foreign tourists visiting Indonesia during the 2018 Asian Games to be co-host by Jakarta and Palembang (South Sumatra Province), from Aug 18 to Sept 2.

During a visit to the Gunung Kidul Sub-district in the Yogyakarta Special Region, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya stated that the ministry has set a target of 170 thousand foreign visitor arrivals, which is believed to be a reasonable figure.

"We are confident that we will achieve the target, since if we refer back to the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea, the country had set a much higher target as compared to that set by us now," he stated.

He further explained that the ministry assumed that there would roughly be 10 thousand participants in the Asian Games, and that there will be an additional five thousand officials. During the 2014 Asian Games in South Korea, there were seven thousand.

The total number of foreign tourists coming from South Korea had reached 200 thousand, and the ministry is only targeting 170 thousand.

"We are confident of achieving the targeted figure," he added.

In order to achieve the target, the ministry have prepared several measures, including the Indonesian Discount Shopping Day, falling on Aug 8, held to welcome the Asian Games.

"We start the Asian Games festivities by holding the Discount Shopping Day on Aug 8, before the Games` opening which is on Aug 18. We are ready to welcome 170 thousand visitors to Indonesia," he added.
