Palembang, South Sumara, (ANTARA News) - The Asian Games torch in the Torch Relay series in 64 cities across Indonesia, arrived in Banyuasin District, South Sumatra, on Sunday morning, after it was kept in Palembang city on Saturday.

Brought in a "tinder box", the eternal flame was handed over by the City of Palembang Government to the Banyuasin District Government at Alang-Alang Lebar Terminal, at 08.00 am local time.

The torch was handed over after being held for one night at the Palembang Mayor`s Office.

The tinder box containing the eternal flmae was received by Banyuasin District Head Supriono SA, who immediately raced it out of the terminal under the escort by security guards.

Hundreds of residents gathered at the Palembang city border terminal and Banyuasin District enthusiastically watched the Torch relay that marked a sign that the 2018 Asian Games will soon be held in Palembang.

Before being handed over to the District head, the fire was taken by car, through the main road in Palembang City. It started from Jalan Tasik to Jalan Kapt A Rivai and turned to Simpang Charitas, then entered Jalan Sudirman.

Dozens of school students welcomed the Torch relay along the road passed by motorcade, starting from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Kol. H. Burlian to arrive at Alang-Alang Lebar Terminal.
