Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Development of power plants based on renewable energy such as wind energy, water energy and geothermal energy, which are environmentally friendly would help boost investment, Bank Indonesia said.

Director of the North Sumatra representative office of Bank Indonesia Andiwiana said in a written statement here on Saturday North Sumatra has big resources of new and renewable energy that could be utilized for economic development.

Bank Indonesia will continue to be ready to initiate discussion on development of renewable energy in the province, he said.

The potentials such as the Asahan river are not yet adequately tapped for the welfare of the people, he said.

He said electric requirement in North Sumatra grows 7-8 percent a year. Hydroelectric plants could be built to meet the peak load for northern Sumatra.
