Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Indonesian swimmer I Gede Siman Sudartawa is eying a medal in the men`s 50 meter (m) backstroke during the 18th Asian Games.

"If everything is alright, I will earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal," he noted here on Monday night.

In the Asian Games 2014 held in Incheon, South Korea, the 23-year-old swimmer ranked fourth in the men`s 50m backstroke. Nonetheless, he is optimistic of winning a medal in the Asian Games 2018 to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, from August 18 to September 2.

Siman will compete in both the men`s 50m and 100m backstroke during the 18th Asian Games. He and other Indonesian swimmers have received training in Australia and the United States ahead of the pan-Asian multi-sport event.

He is likely to face tough competitors from China and Japan.

In the Asian Games 2018, China is likely to field Xu Jiayu, who had won a silver medal in the men`s 100m backstroke during the Olympiad 2012.

Siman will compete in the men`s 100m backstroke on Aug 19 and the men`s 50m backstroke on Aug 20 at the Aquatic Stadium of the Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
