Davao, Philippines (ANTARA News) - Indonesia must focus on improving the skills of workers in the digital and artificial intelligence fields, the Federation of Asia Pacific Global Trade Unions (Union Apro) stated.
"Indonesia must be prepared with technological advancements. We must change our mindset, because the world of work will change drastically in the digital economy," UNI Apro Regional Secretary Christopher Ng said here in Davao, Philippines, on Thursday.
Christopher Ng revealed that the workforce must be prepared in accordance with the needs of the industry through education and training starting from vocational schools to universities.
"By doing so, graduates of vocational schools and universities can be absorbed in the industrial world," he noted.
The government should discuss the formulation of a training curriculum with trade unions and employers.
Meanwhile, Nepal Television Employees Association President Govinda Dhital remarked that the digital technology would transform the media industry.
The difference between old and new media will vanish as most media will be digital and in multi-platform.
"The journalist must be able to write articles, take photos, and even make news videos," he added.
Furthermore, there will be reduction in the number of media workers.
"One person can do three or even four jobs. It is amazing," he remarked.
However, changes in the work pattern of journalists do not directly improve their income.
"Media workers association should fight for the rights of journalists who have multitasking skills," he pointed out. *** 4 ***
