"This is a good result, as our players exhibited discipline and commitment (throughout the match). The important thing is that the players have the character and confidence to play the game well. Good discipline will lead to a good result," Ong Kim Swee said, after the match on Friday.
Malaysia surprisingly beat South Korea 2-1, the Asian Games 2018 favorite, although they remained under pressure throughout the match.
The victory is very important to shore up the players` self-confidence, the more so because they beat South Korea, he said.
With the victory, Malaysia is the first team in Group E to qualify for the round of 16.
"I have told them that a good striker is not the one who only makes goals. But he must have a good mentality, help the defenders and create good team work," he said.
Muhammad Safawi Rashid, who scored the two goals for the Malaysian team, said he could not have imagined that Malaysia could defeat South Korea.
"Alhamdulillah (thank God) we won the match. This was a very difficult match to play against a strong team," he said.
