This message was conveyed by Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Ngurah Swajaya at the Swiss–Indonesia Innovation and Investment Forum 2025, held in Basel on June 11, according to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Bern on Sunday.
Swajaya stated that transforming Indonesia’s health system requires substantial investment in integrated pharmaceutical and health technology sectors.
“Switzerland’s innovative industrial ecosystem can be a strategic partner in supporting the growth of this sector,” he said.
He emphasized that collaboration with Switzerland could help Indonesia improve its health system, including fostering research, innovation, and development of medical devices and health technology.
According to the embassy, cooperation between the two countries is expected to help address challenges in Indonesia’s healthcare sector and create sustainable solutions with wide-reaching impact.
Indonesia’s pharmaceutical market is projected to grow 7.8 percent to US$9.6 billion by 2028. Meanwhile, the medical equipment market is expected to grow 9.1 percent to US$10.47 billion by 2033. The country has also seen a significant increase in the local production of high-tech medical devices.
Indonesia and Switzerland have shared bilateral relations since 1951. Currently, more than 150 Swiss companies operate in Indonesia, including pharmaceutical giants Roche and Novartis.
Swiss businesses have contributed to the development of Indonesia’s healthcare infrastructure and pharmaceutical sector, which was valued at around US$7 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow by 8–10 percent annually.
To mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, Swiss Federal Council member Guy Parmelin is expected to visit Indonesia in October, accompanied by a business delegation.
The Swiss–Indonesia Innovation and Investment Forum 2025—organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Bern with support from Bank Indonesia London, KADIN Indonesia–Switzerland, and the Swiss–Asian Chamber of Commerce—focuses on health technology, finance, life sciences, and high-tech industries. It brings together Swiss business leaders to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in Indonesia.
