"I come here to encourage our athletes, after yesterday, where at the Taekwondo branch, one of them won a gold medal. This morning, Lindswell won another gold and we need to encourage this spirit," the president said after watching the match at Kemayoran JIExpo here on Monday.
President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, considered that Lindswell`s score, 9.75 each for Taijiquan and Taijijian, was near perfect.
Further, the president added that if the gold medal acquisition trend is maintained, then the top 10 target at the 2018 Asian Games can be exceeded.
"It is not necessarily the top 10, we might even enter the top eight," Jokowi said.
The president noted that he could not be present at every final match played by the Indonesian athletes, but if he had the time he would make it.
"Later in the afternoon, I have a meeting with the Prime Minister of South Korea. I may not be present at every match where we win a gold, but I will manage my time as best as possible so that I can make it for every game," he said.
The president then encouraged the Indonesian athletes competing in the 2018 Asian Games to stay focused and have the spirit to achieve the best results.
The Indonesian wushu athlete, Kwok, won the gold medal for women`s Taijiquan-Taijijian. She earned 19.50 points, getting 9.75 points each for Taijiquan and Taijijian.
