In the final race at the GBK Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday night, Sun recorded three minutes 42.92 seconds.
Sun`s supporters greeted him in a boisterous applause and continuously shouted his name.
The three Olympic gold medalists outperformed two Japanese swimmers, Naito Ehara and Kosuke Hagino, who recorded three minutes 47.14 seconds and three minutes 47.20 seconds, respectively.
Previously, Sun Yang collected two gold medals in the men`s 200 meters freestyle and 800 meters freestyle.
The 26-year-old athlete, who always celebrates victory by unfurling his country`s flag, also helped the Chinese team win the silver medal in the men`s 4x200 meter relay-free style.
In this number, the Sun Yang, Xinjie Ji, Keyuan Shang, and Shun Wang quartet just recorded seven minutes 05.45 seconds or surrendered to the Japanese team.
They lost to the Japanese team, consisting of Naito Ehara, Reo Sakata, Kosuke Hagino, and Katsuhiro Matsumoto, who won gold medal with a time record of seven minutes 05.17 seconds.
