Ikee booked 56.30 seconds and surpassed the previous record of 56.61 seconds made by Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
Such time record made Ikee win a gold medal in the final of the women`s 100 meters butterfly style, which took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Before receiving the medal, the winner of three women`s 50 meters freestyle gold medal, 50 meters women`s butterfly style, and 100 meters women`s butterfly style at the Tokyo 2016 Asian Swimming Championship waved to the Japanese supporters sitting in the spectator stands.
Meanwhile, the silver medal went to Zhang Yufei from China, with a time record of 57.40 seconds, and the bronze medal was won by South Korean swimmer Ah Sehyeon, who recorded 58 seconds.
Japan has so far collected 10 gold, 11 silver, and six bronze medals for swimming.
With a total of 43 medals, Japan`s position is below China, which has collected 56 swimming medals.
