Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA News) - Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda strait separating Java and Sumatra, has continued to show activities over the past several days.

On Wednesday night the volcano erupted at least twice sending volcanic ashes as high as 300 meters to the sky, the Lampung Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) office said here on Thursday.

Anak Krakatau (child of Krakatau) surfaced in 1927 in a location where the old Mount Krakatau exploded in May 1883 with an eruption , one of the most devastating in the world history.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) office, however, described the level of condition as Waspada (alert) only prohibiting people including tourists to stay at least 2 kilometers away from the crater.

White smokes from the crater formed thick cloud 50 meters above the peak that night with the crater vomiting glowing materials in weak explosions, the BMKG said.

The sea looked quite that night around the volcano, and the air was cloudy. Gentle winds blew from north to the south and east. The air temperature was around 24-31 C degrees with air humidity of 60-92 percent, it said.

On Thursday, however, BMKG issued an early warning of high waves of the sea off the Port of Krui, in the district of Pesisir Barat of Lampung from Thursday and Friday not far from Anak Krakatau.

The sea waves could be as high as 2.7 meters in the sea off the port of Krui.
