The Indonesian team of I Gede Siman Sudartawa, Gagarin Nathaniel, Glenn Victor Sutanto and Triady Fauzi Sidiq set the national record in the qualifying round with a time of 3 minutes 40.00 seconds, to break the previous national record of 3 minutes 40.34 seconds set at the SEA Games 2017.
With the record, Indonesian swimmers stepped into the finals to take on China and Japan on Friday night (Aug 24).
Without wasting the chance in the finals, the Indonesian quartet broke the national record they had set earlier in the day, with a time of 3 minutes 38.18 seconds.
"We had been ordered to make an all-out effort in the last day of the event, to clock two seconds faster than in the morning. We came close to two seconds. That is good," Siman Sidartawa said after the competiton.
Siman noted that he had performed better in the relay, than in the individual class. Moreover, in the last day of the match he was accustomed to facing pressure from the host?s fans.
On Thursday night (Aug 23), Indonesia also set a new national record in the women`s 4x100 meter medley relay at the Asian Games 2018.
The Indonesian team of Nurul Fajar Fitriyati, Anandia Vanessa Evato, Adinda Larasati Dewi and Patricia Yosita Hapsari clocked in at 4 minutes 11.63 seconds to break the previous national record of 4 minutes 12.44 seconds set at the SEA Games 2017.
