Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A total of 69 athletes from several countries are scheduled to compete in sambo at the 18th Asian Games being held here from August 31 to September 1, 2018.

"These athletes will compete in four events of the women`s 48kg, women`s 68kg, men`s 52kg, and men`s 90kg class," Head of the Sambo venue Wira Orasetyo stated here on Wednesday.

Athletes, who compete in the event, come from 18 countries including one from Vietnam, eight from Uzbekistan, one from Chinese Taipei, six from Turkmenistan, four from Tajikistan, four from Thailand, two from Syria, seven from Mongolia, and two from Malaysia.

The others are three from Lebanon, five from Kyrgistan, eight from Khazakhstan, three from Japan, one from Iraq, four from Iran, eight from Indonesia, one from Bahrain, and one from Afghanistan.

Indonesia`s athletes competing in the event are Rio Akbar Bahari in the 90kg class, Imam Maulana Muttaqin in the 52kg class, Yossi Siswanto in the 90kg, Mohamad Wahyudi in the 52kg, Mutiara Amanda in the 68kg, Maria Magdalena Ince in the 49 kg, Anggun Nurajijah in the 48kg, and Sakinah in the 68kg class.

Chairman of the Indonesia Sambo Association Krisna Bayu noted that optimal preparations had been made for the Asian largest sporting multi-events, including sending athletes for try-outs to South Korea for 60 days and in Russia for 40 days.
