Indonesian Skateboarder Jason Dennis Lijnzaat clinched silver after collecting a total of 68.33 points, while Pevi Permana Putra won bronze, with 67 points. Japanese skateboarder Kensuke Sasaoka emerged as the gold medalist by scoring 76.00 points.
The medalist`s rank in the final is not much different from the final result of the qualifying round on Tuesday (Aug 28).
Sasaoka was dominant and topped the qualifying class, while the two athletes, who followed, were ranked second and third.
In the final, this number is the same system as the qualifying round. Each contestant is given three runs, with a duration of 45 seconds.
The jury will choose the highest score from each run as the final point. Sasaoka looked to play consistently from qualification to the final. Each run was passed with power, and the jump was higher than other skateboarders.
The 19-year-old athlete looked focused and unruffled by the number of Indonesian supporters, who continued to chant slogans to cheer on the host athletes.
Sasaoka achieved his highest score of 76.00 points in his second run, as he smoothly executed several tricks in all parts of the park arena that resembled a swimming pool without water.
He was seen hovering high enough when he succeeded in doing indy water tricks, judo, and stalefish. Sasaoka also repeatedly swiped the edge of the pond with the tricks of bluntslide, nosegrind, and backside smith grind over the curve.
Indonesia relies on winning gold in the skateboarding branches from Sanggoe and Putra.
Two Indonesian skateboarders also continued to make their best efforts to overtake Sasaoka. Putra scored 63.66 points in the first run and 67.00 in the second run.
In the last run, the athlete from West Sumatra attempted to perform different tricks to get the highest points, such as flying seeds and boneless tricks.
However, he failed while attempting the alley-oop over the hip trick, doing a 270-degree flip, jumping over the edge of the pond, and managed to score only 61.66 points.
Indonesia`s best shot at winning gold was from Jason Dennis Linjzaat. In the first run, he collected 66.33 points that he improved in the second run by scoring 68.33 points.
The second run was the 14-year-old athlete`s best, as he successfully performed an invert, indy grab, tuck knee, and one-footed ollie over the hip, and rodeo flip.
However, in the third run, Linjzaat fell while attempting to repeat the rodeo flip trick, thereby only managing to collect 65.66 points and was ranked second in the final.
Meanwhile, Head Coach of the Indonesian Skateboard Team Charlie Hobbies praised the two skateboarders for trying their best. He acknowledged that Japan had, since the start, proven to be the toughest opponent in skateboard park numbers.
"Japan is a tough opponent. They are more prepared, as they have more skating arena facilities in their country as well as consistent regular competitions," Hobbies stated.
Sports affairs Minister is enthusiastic about Indonesian athletes performing well in the skateboarding final.
