Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - President of the International Council of Women (ICW) Jung Sook Kim from South Korea arrived in Yogyakarta through Adisutjipto International Airport on Monday night.

Upon arriving at the airport at 19:50 p.m. local time, Jung Sook Kim, who is scheduled to open the 35th General Session of ICW in Yogyakarta, was welcomed by Chairman of Foreign Relations of the Indonesian Women`s Congress (Kowani) Hadriani Uli Silalahi along with General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) Adisutjipto International Airport, Agus Pandu Purnama.

"I am very happy. I feel warm atmosphere in Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is very appropriate to organize the 35th General Session of ICW," Jung Sook said after receiving a batik scarf from Agus Pandu Purnama.

In addition, Uli Silalahi said the arrival of president of ICW showed that Indonesian women were considered capable of holding international events.

"The existence of Indonesian women is recognized," Uli said.

In the eyes of the world, she noted, the Indonesian women are often considered weak and become victims of abuse, to domestic violence.

However, the event will show that Indonesian women are able to be trusted.

The meeting will be attended by around 169 participants and representatives from embassies. Participating countries will send 40 delegations.

The delegations that have arrived in Yogyakarta are from France, New Zealand, and Turkey. They will be followed by delegations from other countries, including Russia.

This year, Indonesia will the host the 35th General Assembly of the International Council of Women (ICW)-CIF in Yogyakarta from September 12 to 19.

President Joko Widodo is expected to open the congress at the Grand Inna Malioboro Hotel. Other activities will be held at the Village Economy Hall (Balkondes) in the vicinity of the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java.

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Women Congress (Kowani), Titien Pamudjie, earlier said that the event would bring together 1,000 representatives of Indonesian women`s organizations, ambassadors from friendly countries, and a number of cabinet ministers.

The event was also held in cooperation with the Indonesian Women`s Congress (Kowani), and the Ministry of state-owned enterprises.

In addition, the activity was fully supported by 35 state-owned enterprises including The Indonesia News Agency ANTARA.
