"The president expressed his readiness," IDI General Chairman Dr Ilham Oetama Marsis stated at a press conference after meeting the president in Jakarta on Monday.
The IDI chairman expressed hope the president would deliver a keynote speech and directives regarding the IDI congress, especially in the medical field.
President Widodo, who was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Aung and Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Teten Masduki, received the IDI executives at the Merdeka Palace at 9:45 a.m. local time.
In addition to the congress issue, Marsis noted that his party conveyed to the president the IDI`s concern for medical education in future.
"We must be aware that the world of medical education has changed so rapidly, especially entering the fourth industrial revolution," he remarked.
Ilham revealed that several countries had changed in terms of acceleration and diagnosis.
"The steps that we have taken are revisions of the medical education law that we had submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR) two years ago," he noted.
He said that revision of the law was originally included in the 2018 list of the national legislation program, and the stage was now fully accepted by the commission.
"Today, it will be included in the discussion of the House of Representatives` Bamus (consultative body), and if accepted, it will be discussed in the plenary session. If it is endorsed, medical education will enter the fourth industrial revolution era," he noted.
Ilham said it had included articles, especially in "bio engineering," in the field of medicine.
"With the inclusion of these articles, we have forayed into education like in the developed countries, for instance, cancer therapy will have become a matter of the past. We see now that it has switched to cancer therapy, with cellular therapy treatment," he noted.
He also revealed that artificial intelligence diagnosis had reached 99 percent, so this must be taught, especially in the MEA era and globally.
"The president stated his agreement on the service system in future, after all, by entering the digital era and the use of artificial intelligence," he noted.
IDI Deputy Chairperson Dr. Daeng Faqih stated that the 30th IDI conference will be attended by some two thousand participants representing 430 branches, 33 regions, and 83 medical associations under IDI.
Faqih remarked that the conference featured two sessions, with the scientific session discussing the latest issues in medicine and health.
Secondly, he remarked that the organization meeting will discuss the accountability of the management and the inauguration program of the elected chairman.
"The theme of the conference is the transformation of the service system and medical education," Faqih stated.
