Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has called on state-owned aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia to increase its local content to 50 percent from the current 45 percent.

"We called on PT Dirgantara Indonesia to increase its local content from the current 45 percent to 50 percent," Budi said at a seminar of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators VI 2018 here on Tuesday.

The minister has also called on aviation product users to collaborate with Indonesia`s aviation industry as part of a mutual cooperation.

Indonesia, Budi said, has developed sophisticated products with high competitiveness, such as aircraft to measure the shore line, and a multipurpose drone for the agriculture and health sectors.

The minister has promised to facilitate the development of the aviation industry in terms of regulations.

"I want it to be developed. The Transportation Ministry will help with regulations on drones. This advanced technology has been made in Indonesia, and it has been used widely in Jakarta so we have to avoid overlapping," Budi added.

The government applauded the research conducted in aviation as it has explored many innovations that have the potential to be developed as a national product.

The use of local content is expected to save foreign exchange, as currently most of the aircraft spare parts are imported.

"Therefore, I called on the Director General of Air Transportation and Lapan (the National Aviation Aeronautics Agency) to help the negotiation, and take into account national industry operators to build certain components. This will need hard work and we will have to do it jointly," he said.
