Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Aceh Provincial city of Langsa Thursday, according to the local office of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 00.51 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) was located at 4.59 degrees northern latitude and 97.85 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 17 km, northwest of Langsa City.

The earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

On Friday (Sept 14) an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale also hit 161 km northwest of Sabang city in the westernmost Indonesian province of Aceh.

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 02.51 p.m. local time was located at 6.88 degrees northern latitude and 94.28 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 126 km, according to the Mata I`e station of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Aceh Besar.
