Based on a press statement from the US Embassy received by ANTARA in Jakarta, Monday (Oct 1), the "Letter of Intent" (LoI) concerning Promoting Closer Cyberspace Cooperation is a manifestation of the commitment of the two countries in increasing cyberspace cooperation agreed upon during President Joko Widodo`s visit to the United States in October 2015.
"International cooperation in cyberspace, including with the US, is important in facing the growing form of cyber challenges and problems," Anshor stated.
"This LoI is based on existing partnerships and strengthens cooperation in cyberspace to support the spirit of democracy and economic growth," Donovan noted.
The signing of the LoI was attended by representatives from relevant ministries / agencies, including the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Security; Cyber Agency and Country Code; Indonesian police; and related work units / units in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The LoI will be a framework for advancing cooperation and building the capacity of national cyberspace and strengthening the institutions of the Cyber Agency and the State Code as executors of tasks and consolidating national cyber security.
Some areas of cooperation regulated in the LoI include, among others, discussions on the development of a national cyberspace strategy; national incident management capabilities; capacity and cooperation in countering cybercrime; and increasing awareness of cyber security.
Both parties will prepare an Action Plan to identify concrete cooperation activities under the Statement of Will. *** 2 ***
