London (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has shared its experiences as the Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) for the 2015-2017 period and the implementation of policies on maritime affairs at the Blue Sea Land Expo 2018 held at Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, Italy on October 4-6.

Indonesia`s experiences as the Chair of the IORA were conveyed by the Indonesian Ambassador to Italy, Esti Andayani, the Indonesian Embassy in Rome said in a statement, Sunday.

Ambassador Esti Andayani and the Secretary of the Maritime Coordinating Ministry, Agus Purwoto, explained Indonesia`s efforts as the host of Our Ocean Conference 2018 which prioritizes cooperation of various stakeholders in the maritime and maritime sectors in practicing sustainable fisheries to preserve marine resources.

Several side events at the Blue Sea Land Expo 2018 discussed the management of marine resources, efforts to conserve marine resources, healthy fish food products and the maritime safety sector, as well as marine waste management and marine biotechnology.

On the sidelines of the Blue Sea Land Expo 2018, Ambassador Esti held a meeting with the Head of District of Fisheries and Blue Growth, Nino Carlino, to discuss efforts to enhance mutual cooperation and training in the management of seafood products that meet international standards.

The Blue Sea Land Expo is held annually with the main promoter, the District of Fisheries and Blue Growth and supported by several Italian Ministries, namely, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Ministry of Agriculture. The event is also supported by various major sponsors of large Italian companies, such as ENEL, an Italian multinational manufacturer and distributor of electricity and gas.

The District of Fisheries and Blue Growth is a fisheries association with a working area covering the entire Sicilian region. Headquartered in Italy`s largest fishing port city, Mazara del Vallo, this organization has a major role in cooperation between Italy and other countries in the field of sustainable management of Mediterranean marine resources.

The Blue Sea Land Expo is held in the historic center of the city of Mazara del Vallo which for hundreds of years has been an important meeting place of people and cultures, as well as a symbol of trade exchanges in the Mediterranean region. The city also shows harmonious cross-cultural and religious relations.

The previous head of the District of Fisheries and Blue Growth was Late Dr. Giovanni Tumbiolo, who was an Italian national fisherman and initiator of the Blue Sea Land Expo.
