The two gold medals recently won were respectively by Edy Suryanto, who recorded five points in the men`s singles VI-BI classification and in the men`s group for total visual impairment.
Heri Isranto, manager of the national chess team, was pleased with the achievement that exceeded the target.
"I am optimistic that we would be able to exceed the gold medal target. In the rapid chess category, I expect four more gold medals as Mr Edy is a master in rapid chess," Isranto noted.
Earlier, Indonesia`s national chess team competing in the third Asian Para Games had grabbed four gold medals.
The gold medals won were respectively two from group matches, one from the VI-BI classification or total visual impairment, and another for PI or impaired passive range of movement, in the women`s singles standard.
Winners for the group category are Wilma Margaretha Sinaga and Debi Ariesta; for VI-BI classification is Debi Ariesta; and for PI is Simanja Nasip Farta.
During the chess matches held at the Cempaka Putih Stadium, Ariesta and Farta defeated their rivals from Vietnam, after respectively collecting 6.5 points.
The Asian Para Games 2018 is being hosted by Jakarta on Oct 6-13.
Indonesia is optimistic of improving its ranking from the top nine in the previous Asian Para Games to top seven, with 16-19 medals from 18 sports events being competed in the largest multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities in Asia.
Some five thousand athletes and officials, with 1.1 thousand of them on wheelchairs, from 41 countries, are participating in the Asian Para Games that also involves eight thousand volunteers, five thousand field operators, and 800 national as well as international journalists.
