President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) together with Prime Minister (PM) Singapore Lee Hsien Loong presided over the ASEAN Leaders` Gathering meeting at Sofitel Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday night (11/10).
The meeting, initiated by Indonesia, presented 10 ASEAN member countries and a number of leaders of international institutions.
During the meeting, President Joko Widodo mentioned a number of matters related to the ASEAN vision.
Firstly, President Joko Widodo highlights the importance of thinking about regional and global cooperation mechanisms for sustainable development in the aftermath disaster.
The catastrophes in Central Sulawesi and Lombok showed that decades of development could disappear in an instant.
Secondly, the President views the importance of prioritizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the development phase of each ASEAN member country. Some achievements of the SDGs will continue to be pursued by Indonesia in its development.
Some of them are the declining poverty rate to single digit at 9.8 percent in 2018, increasing access to clean water for households, and increasing access to health services through National Health Insurance which covers 77.78 percent of the Indonesian people.
"Then, the progress in infrastructure development in the last four years as the realization of the nine SDGs," he said.
Thirdly, President Joko Widodo believes that synergy between regional and international organizations and financial institutions is key in realizing SDGs.
"The synergy between regional and international organizations and financial institutions for the achievement of SDGs is very important," the president said.
Fourthly, Indonesia encouraged innovative funding sources such as blended finance which was discussed in the Tri Hita Karana Forum.
"One of the challenges of achieving SDGs is the funding problem. Therefore, Indonesia encourages innovative funding sources such as blended finance," he said.
Furthermore, in an effort to reach the SDGs, each country needs to involve technological progress in its efforts.
"I exemplify the development of online education applications in Indonesia," the president said.
On this occasion, the Head of State also called on all ASEAN leaders and governments to encourage cooperation with other countries in an effort to realize the SDGs.
"I want to emphasize that the achievement of SDGs cannot be attained by one country without cooperating with other countries. The achievement of SDGs requires global leadership and shared responsibilities," he remarked.
