Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla greeted Antonio Guterres, secretary general of the United Nations, on arrival at the Mutiara SIS Al Jufrie Airport in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Friday.

Guterres, who arrived to attend the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bali, had paid a visit to Palu in the aftermath of a deadly earthquake and subsequent tsunami on September 28, 2018.

Kalla departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Friday at 7 a.m. local time aboard a special presidential plane Boeing Business Jet.

Accompanied by Chairman of the National Disaster Mitigation Office Willem Rampangilei and Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola, Kalla greeted Guterres, who landed at the airport, some 20 minutes after Kalla`s arrival.

In the afternoon, Guterres will return to Bali where the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings are being held until October 14, 2018, while Kalla will head to Medan, North Sumatra, to officially close the 27th National Quran Recital Contest.

The death toll reaches 2,065, and 680 people are still missing after the earthquake 7.4 on the Richter scale and tsunami hit Palu, Donggala, Sigi and Parigi Moutong in Central Sulawesi on 28 September 2018.

The government has extended the situation of emergency in the tsunami devastated areas in Central Sulawesi until Oct 26 this year.
