Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla believes that Indonesia is tough and capable of maintaining unity as well as overcoming problems.

“At the commemoration of Independence Day, we are also concerned about the pandemic that has become a cause of growing concern among countries around the world. However, I believe that our nations are tough and capable of maintaining unity,” Kalla stated via the Presidential Secretary’s YouTube channel here on Tuesday.

The vice president made the statement in commemoration of the Seconds to Proclamation of the 76th Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

The 76th anniversary of Indonesian independence this year is overshadowed by concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, the vice president for the 2004-2009 and 2014-2019 periods noted

Kalla believed that Indonesia harbors visions for the near future and has sound knowledge to tackle problems pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There should be high belief that the country will surmount the pandemic.

“While we remain grateful to God, we are also concerned and certain that through our efforts, we can find a way out of the problems and bring this country to a good position in the next 100 years,” he remarked.
