Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Gilbert Houngbo has commended the success of the village fund program run by the Ministry of Villages, Underdeveloped Regions, and Transmigration (PDTT).

In a press statement received here on Friday, Houngbo noted that the village fund program not only brought about a transformation benefiting all parties in village areas but is also a strategy in line with the IFAD program to develop villages through the farming sector.

"What impresses me is that through the village fund program, the development is conducted coherent between social development and economic sectors," Houngbo noted.

Houngbo lauded the village fund program during a limited meeting with PDTT Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali.

On the occasion, Houngbo also expressed his keenness to recommend the program in other developing countries across the world.

"With sustainable development, we will continue to communicate with the Ministry of Village to create a presentation through which we would like to recommend to developing countries across the world," Houngbo stated.

The meeting was held following the previous meeting between Minister Sandjojo and IFAD some time ago in Milan, Italy.

Accelerating village development is a main factor of Indonesia`s economic growth. In addition to mapping potential products, villages need to be driven to offer added value to their commodities in order to obtain a better selling value.

"Hence, the people`s income will increase. The IFAD believes that this is an effort to ensure sustainable development," Minister Sandjojo noted.
