The currency closed at the level of 15.196 per U.S. dollar from 15,229 earlier.
Chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said a decline in the US bond yield put a pressure on the dollar resulting in gain for a number of other currencies in the world including rupiah.
"The US dollar traded at lower level in the global market on a decline in the US bond yield," Ariston said.
The rupiah strengthening was also attributable to technical factor with market players accumulating assets in rupiah denomination taking advantage of the falling value of rupiah in the past week, he said.
"Domestic sentiment is relatively conducive that currently the market tend to watch external factors," he said.
