The agreement was signed during Sulaiman`s visit to Taiwan since October 9, 2018. Minister Sulaiman was welcomed by Taiwanese Agriculture Minister Tsung-Hsien Lin.
"We hold an informal meeting with the Taiwanese agriculture minister. Taiwan offers an internship program that provides Indonesian farmers an opportunity to directly learn about the modern agriculture system from their Taiwanese counterparts," Sulaiman noted in a press statement received here on Sunday.
Sulaiman highlighted that the cooperation is strategic, as it supports the Ministry of Agriculture`s program to create innovative agricultural human resources.
According to Sulaiman, it would become difficult for Indonesia`s agriculture sector to develop and become the world`s food barn without capable human resources and advanced technology.
Meanwhile, the framework of the internship program will be discussed intensively by both parties. It is expected that the first batch of the internship program for 40 Indonesian farmers would be launched soon.
Furthermore, Sulaiman explained that the internship program will be expanded, including the internship to enhance the quality of Indonesia`s human resources in the sugar industry. To this end, prospective labor, both from the informal and downstream sector, will be included in the program.
The visit to Taiwan also discussed the Taiwanese sugar industry`s investment commitment in Indonesia worth Rp20 trillion, opening the export market of Indonesian mangosteen to Taiwan, and also cooperation on the development of a Rainwater Harvesting System.
"These are the commitment to strengthen partnership for benefiting both parties," Sulaiman added.
