Jakarta, Oct 18 (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Agus Maftuh Abegebriel held a meeting with Saudi National Guard Minister Prince Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf on Sunday (Oct 14) to discuss political and security issues.

The discussion also focused on the importance of efforts to increase cooperation in eradicating terrorism and extremism as well as raising awareness to increase security at the regional and global levels, the ambassador noted in a statement received by Antara here on Thursday.

At the meeting, Prince Khalid lauded Indonesia`s performances and roles in creating world peace that have been recognized by the world.

"Hence, Saudi Arabia, as Indonesia`s brother, also fully supports Indonesia as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2019-2020 period," Prince Khalid stated.

The Saudi National Guard Ministry is a "super body" institution that has tens of thousands of Saudi elite troops responsible for the security of the King. The National Guard is also tasked with guarding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, Prince Khalid expressed his condolences over the earthquake and tsunami disasters that struck Palu, Donggala, and the surrounding areas. He prayed for the victims and hoped the post-disaster recovery process would run smoothly.

"The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia is more than just a relation between two countries, but it is a very special relationship between two brothers," Prince Khalid stated.

Prince Khalid added that Indonesia is an important partner for Saudi Arabia, as the country has the largest Muslim population and has influence in the region and in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In addition, Prince Khalid expressed his support for Indonesia as the honorary guest at the 33rd Janadriyah Festival in 2019 as stipulated in the Decree of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

"Your country has everything. I am sure that Indonesia will provide extraordinary and best performances. The National Guard Ministry, as the organizer of the festival, is ready to provide Indonesia with everything that it needs," the Minister of National Guard noted.

Responding to Prince Khalid, Ambassador Agus Maftuh said in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries during the state visit of the Guardians of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to Indonesia in 2017, Indonesia is committed to continue working with Saudi Arabia in fighting terrorism, extremism, and radicalism.

"Indonesia is also ready to support the steps of the Crown Prince, Prince Muhammad bin Salman to apply and spread Islam as a moderate and peaceful religion. The Crown Prince`s vision is in line with the view of Islam that only knows one language, which is, the language of peace," the Indonesian ambassador, who is also a lecturer at the Islamic State University of Sunan Kalijaga, remarked.

On behalf of the Indonesian government, the Indonesian ambassador expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Indonesia to become the honorary guest at the Janadriyah Festival.

"I want to quote the words of the late King Faisal during his visit to Indonesia in 1970 that the denial of closeness between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia was like negating the brightness of the sun in the afternoon," Ambassador Maftuh added.
