"The sea holds abundant natural resources. The country coast lines are among the longest in the world and our sea territory is among the richest worldwide. Therefore, the assets have to be protected as a strategic sector," Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said here on Saturday.
For that purpose, KKP and SKK Migas have teamed up to develop the country`s energy security through security synergy of the national strategic industry, Susi said.
KKP and SKK Migas also coordinate in drafting the zones of coastal areas and small isles (RZWP3K), to maintain positive synergy in activities in the two sectors. Oil and gas explorations have shifted more offshore in the country.
Minister Susi and head of SKK Migas Amien Sunaryadi already signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Yogyakarta on Thursday to provide reference for the cooperation.
The MoU covers joint study of technical aspect in the use of offshore production facilities by SKK Migas.
Susi said she hoped the cooperation between KKP and SKK Migas would continue to grow as the two institutions are closely interrelated.
