Speaking at a function to expose four years of the Jokowi-JK administration`s achievements at the State Secretariat building here on Wednesday, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Puspayoga said a number of programs carried out by his ministry had had an impact on rising entrepreneurial rate.
"The entrepreneurial rate stood at 1.4 percent in 2014 and moved up to 3.1 percent in 2016," he said.
The increase in entrepreneurial rate was also the result of synergy with all stakeholders from ministries, governors, district heads, mayors and the private sector, he said.
"I believe the entrepreneurial rate will stay above 5 percent at the end of this year," he said.
The rising entrepreneurial rate is also one of the achievements which is worth reckoning during the four years of the Jokowi-JK administration particularly in the cooperatives and small and medium enterprises sector, he said.
Puspayoga said in the past four years entrepreneurship topped the list of the ministry`s priorities to catch up with other countries in terms of entrepreneurship.
"It is very important to grow the public`s economic self-sufficiency culture through entrepreneurship so they will not be job seekers but job providers," he said.
He expressed optimism that Indonesia`s entrepreneurial rate this year will be equal to that of neighboring countries including Singapore at 7 percent, Malaysia at 5 percent and Thailand at 4 percent.
To increase the entrepreneurial rate, the ministry has carried out a number of programs including the National Entrepreneurship Movement (GKN) and the Student Entrepreneur Movement (GMP) in cooperation with 59 institutes of higher learning across the country, he said.
Through the two movements, the ministry has provided coaching to 117,864 people including students, graduates, and youths and extended capital to 9,887 startups, he said.
