"This afternoon, there are four hotspots in Aceh," said BMKG Head of Data and Information Section of the Blang Bintang Meteorology Station, Aceh, Zakaria Ahmad, in Aceh Besar on Friday.
He noted that these four hotspots were spread across three districts in the West and South in Aceh, namely West Aceh, Aceh Jaya, and Aceh Singkil.
In West Aceh, there are two spots in between, collected in one sub-district, including Samatiga, with each having a confidence level of 52 and 67 percent.
The Aceh Jaya hotspots were monitored in Kreungsabe Subdistrict with a confidence level of 65 percent, and Aceh Singkil in Singkohor District had a 75 percent confidence.
"There is one we suspect as a hotspot. As a result, it has a level of trust which shows the possibility of forest and land fires, namely Singkohor," he explained.
"We ask the relevant officers to check directly with the position of coordinates at 97.97 East longitude, and 2.52 North latitude in Aceh Singkil," said Zakaria.
The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) previously reported that an area of 835 hectares of forest and land in the Aceh region had been burning for the last eight months in 2018.
"There is an addition in August 2018, of a total of 487.5 hectares of both forest and burned land, so that the total becomes 835 hectares in Aceh," said BPBA Chief Executive Teuku Ahmad Dadek in Banda Aceh on Friday.
