Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan attended the Urban 20 (U20) Global Summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Oct 29-30 and spoke on several issues, including village planning, improving community services, third spatial planning, and entrepreneurship development.

During the meeting, Baswedan also held several bilateral meetings with Executive Director of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) Mark Watts to discuss C40 support for Jakarta`s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

"Governor Anies also met with Mayor of Buenos Aires Horacio Rodr?guez Larreta. The two signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation between the two cities in the fields of sports, culture, social integration, and housing, as well as investment and finances," Atika Nur Rahmania, acting head of the Provincial Communications, Informatics, and Statistics Office, noted in a statement received by Antara here, Wednesday.

Moreover, a meeting was held between Baswedan and Ede Ijjasz-Vasquez, senior director for the World Bank`s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice.

At the meeting, Governor Baswedan discussed urban problems in Jakarta, such as floods and land subsidence, land consolidation, urban renewal, and opportunities for cooperation between the Jakarta provincial administration and the World Bank.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the Jakarta governor with CEO of the Open Government Partnership Sanjay Pradhan discussed the importance of building public trust in the administration through the use of information technology as well as open data and government initiatives.

Rahmania added that the U20 organizer specifically urged Governor Baswedan to be one of the speakers during the panel discussion on the topic of social integration, especially regarding various programs implemented in Jakarta over the past year.

At the high-level meeting on the Open Government for Urban Challenges, in addition to the governor of Jakarta, Helsinki Mayor Jan Vapaavuori, Montevideo Mayor Daniel Mart?nez, representatives of the City of Buenos Aires, Portland, Madrid, and other city representatives were present.

At the event, Baswedan highlighted the challenge in building public trust in the government and Jakarta`s experiences in accommodating the people`s aspirations through the Community Action Plan that allows those at the lowest level to deliver their hopes to the administration.

Governor Baswedan also explained that Jakarta`s people can also submit responses, suggestions, and complaints to the administration through Citizen Relations Management that is expected to build trust and improve the people`s participation in the policy-making process.

Meanwhile, at a panel discussion based on the theme of Social Integration, the Jakarta governor shared stage with representatives from Madrid, Berlin, and Buenos Aires cities.

At this session, Baswedan stated that the big challenge faced by Jakarta in the past year was to bring a sense of unity among the people.

In realizing this goal, the provincial administration is transforming a bureaucratic perspective of an administration, which acts as a service provider, into an administration that becomes a collaborator with people as the co-creator.

On the occasion, Baswedan spoke about the rural management program in Jakarta implemented through Community Action Planning. This program that transformed 16 villages in Jakarta has four important elements that are always involved: the administration, people, experts, and facilitators.
