In a press release received by Antara here on Wednesday, Karnavian stated that the annual meeting had strategic values in strengthening cooperation among countries to prevent and deal with various forms of transnational crimes in the ASEAN region.
Karnavian pointed out that there were various form of crimes which became the main concern at this meeting, including terrorism, illegal trafficking of narcotics and drugs, and human trafficking.
"Other crimes are cyber piracy, money laundering, and illegal trade of endangered species and forest products," Karnavian remarked, hoping that the 2018 AMMTC meeting could produce various programs and shared agendas in an effort to prevent and eradicate transnational crimes in the ASEAN region.
The event, which takes place from Oct 29 to Nov 2, 2018, is planned to be officially opened by the Vice President of Myanmar, U Myint Swe, at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC) II.
Delegates from 10 ASEAN countries as well as from China, South Korea, and Japan will participate in the event.
The Indonesian delegation consists of the National Police, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the National Terrorism Mitigation Agency (BNPT), and the State Cyber and Intelligent Agency (BSSN).
Karnavian is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Myanmar`s Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Kyaw Swe and Myanmar`s National Security Advisor U Thaung Tun.
"The National Police is committed to providing training to increase the capacity of Myanmar Police personnel in maintaining internal security," Karnavian explained.
According to him, the Indonesian National Police has prepared training programs for the Myanmar Police, including training on securing rallies, handling mass riots, and investigating crimes based on human rights values.
"Increasing the capacity of Myanmar Police personnel is a concrete effort of the Indonesian Police in supporting the resolution of Myanmar`s internal security issues in a professional, humanitarian, and respectful manner considering human rights values," he added.
The National Police Chief is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Senior Secretary of Singapore Parliament Amrin Amin to discuss various security issues of the two countries.
