Banda Aceh, Aceh,(ANTARA News)- Sixteen fishermen from Idi, East Aceh District, Aceh Province, were captured by unknown armed people in Thai waters on Tuesday (Nov 6), according to Miftach Cut Adek, deputy secretary general of Aceh Sea Commander, a tribal leader in fishing community in Aceh.

"There are 16 fishermen of East Aceh being captured in Thai waters, reportedly by armed people wearing camouflage battle dress uniform," Miftach said Friday.

Based on a report received by the Sea Commander of Idi Rayeuk Sub-district, the fishermen were captured on Nov 6 at around eight o`clock in the morning local time.

The fishermen are identified by their names as Jamaluddin, Nurdin, Samidan, Efendi, Rahmat, Saifuddin, Nazaruddin, Syukri, Darman, Safrizal, Umar, M Aris, Jamaluddin, Sulaiman, M Akbar, and Paiturahman.

They were aboard MV Bintang Jasa departing from Kuala Idi, on Oct 31, 2018 at around 2 p.m. local time.

"We have lost contact with them. Today, we will report about this case to the Aceh government as well as the Foreign Affairs Ministry," he said.

Miftach Cut Adek said he did not know why the fishermen were in Thai waters. He suspected that they had been drifted by sea waves of encountered engine failure.
