Chinese, Russian freedivers win Sabang Int`l Freediving C`ship

Sabang, Aceh, (ANTARA News) - Chinese and Russian freedivers emerged as overall champions at Sabang International Freediving Championship (SIFC) 2018 held in Balohan Bay, Aceh province, from Nov 5-8.

Jin Wang of China won two of three categories -- constant weight (CWT) and constant weigh no fins (CNF) - with a total of 239 points, spokesman for the Aceh provincial tourism and culture office Rahmadani said on Thursday.

The Chinese freediver only lost to Jay Ku of Taiwan in free immersion (FIM) category, he said.

Meanwhile, Marianna Gillespie of Russia won all the three categories, scoring 217 points in total, he said.

The contest brought together 40 participants from 20 countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Macau, South Korea, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Taiwan, Ukraine, Britain, the US and South Africa.

The freediving championship is the second of its kind held in the province.
