" We organized the APRSCP Conference together with the 2nd Indonesia Resource Efficiency Exhibition and Forum," Nurbaya noted at Balai Kartini, Jakarta.
According to her, this meeting was used to accommodate the cooperation of stakeholders in promoting sustainable consumption and production in the Asia Pacific region.
Nurbaya remarked that the current challenges were more severe than a few years ago in realizing sustainable consumption and production programs.
"The latest development of global issues shows that climate change is not merely a global concern. Research shows the challenges of the global, regional, and local environment, including the use of mercury and marine waste," she revealed.
On that occasion, the minister invited delegates to recall the 1992 Rio Declaration that the prerequisite for sustainable development was to change the pattern of unsustainable production and consumption.
"In following up on environmental challenges, we must remind each other that the prerequisite for sustainable development is changing patterns of unsustainable production and consumption, changing routine practices, habits, or lifestyles," she explained.
To realize behavior change in the government, business world, and society in a systematic, integrative, and massive manner, all stakeholders need to be encouraged to bring about agents of change in Indonesia and in the Asia Pacific region, the minister elaborated.
The event, which is held from Nov 12 to 14, 2018, at Balai Kartini building, Jakarta, has an agenda to bring about change. The intended change is the need for the role of the government in prioritizing sustainable consumption and production policies, both for business and society through innovation, sharing experiences, and making concrete implementations in the field to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development targets (SDGs).
