Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar is optimistic of a change in the way oil and gas blocks are sold in Indonesia.

"I hope that the way and pattern that we have used so far could be changed. Why? This is because the old way used so far is not effective in selling our oil and gas blocks," Tahar stated here on Thursday.

Hence, he called for the need to find new ways, make innovations, and come up with ideas, so that the end result is the sale of oil and gas blocks and not data.

The new approach that he expects to be adopted is to employ ways to stimulate or encourage the people to believe there is potential in oil and gas blocks.

"It should be added that our blocks have prospect. This is still scientific data only. It is not yet the following data, or the salable data. That is important how to sell it," the deputy minister asserted.

He further affirmed that if the block is sold, the government has expressed hope that new oil fields would be found.

"If the data is presented in old ways, I am pessimistic whether we will be able to find new oil and gas fields in future," Arcandra stated after opening a 2018 oil and gas seminar titled "Hunting for New Oil and Gas Fields in Indonesia."

He also expressed hoped that communities related to the oil and gas sector would be able to make major changes, so that new ways and ideas emerged in the presentation of oil and gas block data in Indonesia.

The oil and gas seminar, opened by Tahar, discussed geological and geophysical data from the Center for Geological Survey of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The data showed the potential of hydrocarbons in areas that have the most prospects for oil and gas reserves.

The seminar was held to disseminate geological information and work results achieved, especially in areas that have potential to find new oil and gas fields.
